What do Book Covers, Lockers, and Pinterest Have in Common?
November. The month of turkey, pumpkin pie, pilgrims and football. If you’ve read any of our story, you know we are feeling extra grateful this year. We have much to be thankful for.
I’m a quote-girl. Ever since I can remember, I was writing down quotes I’d hear or read. I’d decorate my old-school-paper-grocery-bag book covers in elementary school with embarrassingly cheesy lines I thought were cool, like “Make love, not war” (a statement my 4th grade self had no understanding of-haha!) In middle-school I graduated to decorating my locker with Peanuts stickers sporting cute and funny sayings and the ever-adorable “Love Is...” cartoons with pudgy belly-buttoned characters, helping me to understand the many ways that love could make the world go ‘round. C’mon now, who didn’t love those? I’d fall hook-line-and-sinker for clever advertising campaigns and made it my goal to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. I chose my all time favorite classic film, Song of Bernadette, mostly based on the quote card at the beginning of the movie. “You’ve Got Mail” became my favorite contemporary romantic comedy, much in part due to the clever one-liners and easy-to-apply-to-any-life-situation quotes which I still use at random these many years later. Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino...
I like to think both my platform and taste in quotes has become more sophisticated over the years. I have graduated from book covers and lockers to Instagram and Pinterest. I still love cheesy quotes and funny memes, as you can see on my Quotable Quotes and Inspirations board.
Over the years, as my world has grown larger and my focus has matured, I find that the quotes and sayings which speak to me most are those reminding me to choose joy and gratitude. Whether it be favorite scripture verses or short quotes reminding me to keep the main thing the main thing, I’m still a sucker for words that inspire.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, here are a few of my favorites.
